The fruiting body is club-shaped, with a round top, yellow then orange-red.
The flesh is white, turning brown when exposed to air; its taste is bitter;
The fertile surface is smooth.
It grows on the ground, in broad-leaved woods, on a rather calcareous soil, with beech, oaks.
The fruiting period takes place from July to December.
