The cap is shaped like a drumstick, with an ovale fertile head, chestnut to brown black, with an olive-yellow clearly marked stem.

The fertile surface is smooth.

It grows on the ground, in forests, mostly with conifers.

The fruiting period takes place from September to December.
Dimensions: width of cap approximately 1.5 cm (between 1 and 1.5 cm)
  total height approximately 6 cm (between 3 and 10 cm)

Distinctive features : simple (not branched), parasite of underground fungi (Elaphomyces) or insects

Cordyceps canadensis is still unreported so far in the forest of Rambouillet, and is quite rare, more generally speaking .
