The cap is steel blue to blue black; its margin is striate when moist. The cap surface is smooth, not viscid nor sticky.

The flesh is dark blue, unchanging; the odour is not distinctive; its texture is fibrous.

The gills are greyish to blue then pink, adnate, distant . The spore print is pink. This species is saprophytic. It grows on the ground, in meadows, parks and heaths, on a rather calcareous soil.

The fruiting period takes place from July to November.

  height of stem approximately 3.5 cm (between 2 and 5 cm)
  thickness of stem (at largest section) approximately 2 mm (between 1 and 5 mm)

Distinctive features : cap and stem blueish to blackish-blue; gills blueish

Entoloma chalybaeum var. lazulinum is still unreported so far in the forest of Rambouillet, and is infrequent, more generally speaking .
