The fruiting body is a mass of irregular brain-like folds, black, without stem.

The fertile surface is smooth.

It grows on wood, in broad-leaved woods, on beech.

The fruiting period takes place all year long.
Dimensions: width of fruiting body approximately 20 cm (between 10 and 30 cm)
  total height approximately 2.5 cm (between 0.5 and 5 cm)

Distinctive features : sorry, no English description yet

Exidia nigricans is still unreported so far in the forest of Rambouillet, and is frequent, more generally speaking .
