The fruiting body is flattened cup-shaped, with a cinnamon red internal surface, the external surface being of similar colours.

The fertile surface is smooth.

It grows on wood, on broad-leaved trees, living or dead, on hornbeam, birch.

The fruiting period takes place from December to June.
