The fruiting body is star-shaped, composed of numerous rays, with black to dark brown felty upper surface and a black-brown naked spore sac, without a parchment paper like envelope, brown black.

The fertile surface is internal: the spores are released as dust when mature. The spore print is dark brown.

It grows on the ground, in broad-leaved woods, with locust, ash.

The fruiting period takes place from August to October.
Dimensions: width of fruiting body approximately 15 cm (between 10 and 20 cm)

Distinctive features : sorry, no English description yet

Geastrum melanocephalum is still unreported so far in the forest of Rambouillet, and is very rare, more generally speaking .
