The fruiting body is star-shaped, composed of numerous rays, with black to dark brown felty upper surface and a black-brown naked spore sac, without a parchment paper like envelope, brown black. The fertile surface is internal: the spores are released as dust when mature. The spore print is dark brown.It grows on the ground, in broad-leaved woods, with locust, ash. The fruiting period takes place from August to October.
