The cap is saddle-shaped, with a brown to brown-black internal surface, the external being of the same colour, with a well differentiated stem, whitish, veined or furrowed with round furrows. The fertile surface is smooth. It grows on the ground, in coniferous or deciduous woods, on sandy-clayey grounds, on a rather calcareous soil. The fruiting period takes place from May to August.
Distinctive features : sorry, no English description yet Helvella solitaria is still unreported so far in the forest of Rambouillet, and is quite rare, more generally speaking .
