The cap is pale grey to dark leaden-grey, with a central umbo. The cap surface is smooth, not viscid nor sticky.

The flesh is greyish, unchanging; its taste is mealy, of rancid meal ; the odour is of rancid meal also; its texture is fibrous.

The gills are grey, adnate, crowded . The spore print is white. This species is saprophytic. It grows on the ground.

The fruiting period takes place from September to December.
