section 8: bulbous stem base


In this section, we must tell the system whether the stem base is bulbous or not. If the stem is cylindrical, more or less equal or even swollen at the base, it is not considered as bulbous. Note that a bulbous base does not imply the presence of a volva, and vice-versa (see the section concerning volva. When in doubt choose "I don't know"

Examples:
           
The stem is here clearly bulbous at the base, select then for this case "yes"     The stem is here cylindrical, if not tapering towards base, select then for this case "no"     The stem is here clearly bulbous at the base (inside the sheathing volva), select then for this case "yes"     The stem is here swollen towards the base,
without being bulbous, select then for this case "no"
