The fruiting body is ear-shaped, erect, and split on one side, with a red-brown internal surface, the external surface being of same colour or lighter.
The fertile surface is smooth.
It grows on the ground, in coniferous woods, in higher altitudes, with spruce.
The fruiting period takes place from August to December.
