The fruiting body is cup-shaped, then flattening to a disk, with a brown-black internal surface, the external surface being dull brown . The flesh is yielding a liquid when cut; The fertile surface is smooth. It grows on the ground, mostly on burnt ground, in sandy pine woods. The fruiting period takes place from April to December.
