The fruiting body is cup shaped, regularly formed, with a bright red, smooth, shiny internal surface, the external surface being whitish, pink to orange, dull, hairy.
The fertile surface is smooth.
It grows on wood, on fallen alder branches, in the Alps, on alder.
The fruiting period takes place from January to June.
