The fruiting body is coral-shaped or fan-shaped rosette, tufted and laying on the ground, or as a carpet of numerous thin cottony and spiky branches, white for a long time, then purple-brown.

The fertile surface is smooth.

It grows on wood or on the ground, in broad-leaved and coniferous woods, on twigs and litter, on oaks, birch, pine.

The fruiting period takes place from August to December.
