The fruiting body is rosette-shaped, actually composed of imbricate funnels, red-brown to chocolate-brown. the odour is acidic. The fertile surface is smooth. It grows on wood or on the ground, in woods or dunes, on twigs and litter. The fruiting period takes place from July to December.
