The fruiting body is funnel-shaped, split on one side, with an orange-pink to red-orange internal surface, the external being violet pink, with a whitish stem, veined or furrowed, which is but a thickening of the fertile top.

The fertile surface is smooth.

It grows on wood, on buried wood of coniferous or broad-leaved trees, on a rather calcareous soil, on spruce, beech.

The fruiting period takes place from July to December.
Dimensions: width of fruiting body approximately 4 cm (between 2 and 6 cm)
  total height approximately 8 cm (between 3 and 15 cm)
