The cap is yellowish grey to beige brownish, funnel-shaped, soft as if stuffed with cotton, with a hardly noticeable umbo; its margin is smooth or sometimes slightly furrowed. The cap surface is smooth, not viscid nor sticky. The stem is cream, more or less same colour as cap or paler, often curved at the base, mostly swollen in a club shape, without ring. The flesh is whitish, yellower towards base, unchanging; its taste is mild; the odour is pleasant, fruity, sweet; its texture is fibrous. The gills are white then cream yellowish, very decurrent, crowded (nb of gills per 90° ~ 23 ). The spore print is white. This species is saprophytic. It grows on the ground, in broad-leaved and coniferous woods, on a rather acid soil, most of the time with beech, larch. The fruiting period takes place from June to December.
