Question 28: Saprophytic/mycorhizian or parasite

The term "saprophytic" applies to all species feeding on dead organic matter, possibly in a symbiosis with a vegetal (it is then "mycorhizian"), while the term "parasite" applies to all species growing at the expense of other living bodies (whether vegetal, fungus or animal).
Most parasite fungi are growing on living wood, but they can also attack other mushrooms and even insects. One must therefore verify whether the colonised wood is living or not. When in doubt, select "I don't know".

Examples:

This mushroom grows on the roots of a living tree, select then "parasite (grows on living bodies)"     This mushroom grows on the stump of a dead tree, select then "saprophytic/mycorhizian (grows on dead matter) "
